FUNTUBE FURNACE
Located in the ruin of Fornace Mariani — an abandoned brick furnace factory in the suburban area in Rome, Italy. Funtube Fornace uses the existing chimney as the signifier to activate a space for a new leisure center.

The very visually significant chimney of the factory is preserved as the figural syntax of the entire concept.
While the original brick chimney stands in the center of the site. The figure of it is scaled, extruded, rotated, and shared into a suspended Vierendeel Truss structure.
Plan
Cultural significance from the memory of the past infuses the new leisure fun palace.
Yet, a playful re-interpretation of the historic relic provides the old furnace with new energy.
